Louisiana Pacific or LP as they are known as has been a fixture in Jasper since before the OSB plant opened in 1996. LP has 152 employees and they make Oriented Strand Board or OSB that is delivered from Louisiana to California. Wednesday LP celebrated National Manufacturing Day with a barbeque dinner for their employees and management.

The plant manager as other management of the plant explained that there is a real future for those interested in working in the manufacturing industry. Those willing to learn can choose a path that does not include formal education. Becoming a skilled laborer in the manufacturing sector is a great way to earn a living and support a family.

The LP facility also has on average 100 log trucks per day entering the site to drop off logs to be used in the manufacturing process. LP uses or sells every part of the logs that are delivered. The tree bark is sold to landscape professionals or to other manufacturing facilities to be used as fuel for their equipment. All the timber inside the bark is utilized in the OSB manufacturing process. Between 2 to 3 million board feet is shipped out of Jasper each day.

In addition to using all the logs, LP is also committed to being eco-friendly. For every tree that is cut LP plants 3+ trees to replace each one cut. This is part of the sustainable forest initiative and LP is committed to making their and all timber industries sustainable.

The materials constructed meet the same standards as plywood and are graded on the same scale by the American Plywood Association. The OSB products are used in various applications in the construction process such as weather barrier, and flooring.

LP is always looking for skilled craftsmen and women to join their team. Those interested can apply at www.LPCORP.com/careers, or click the link on the LP ad on KJAS.com. LP workforce is among the top 5 in Jasper.
